Before the measurements from these Garmin devices can be uploaded and analyzed in Sports v. 4.7.x., they need to be set to record heart rate variability data (R-R data). Only the measurements recorded with a heart rate strap can be uploaded to a Firstbeat software. Data recorded with the optical sensor can't be uploaded.
Note that newer Garmin devices, such as Forerunner 945, Fenix5, Forerunner 935, and Edge 1030, has a "Log HRV" feature already in the device, so there is no need for any additional settings. Just turn on the feature in the device and it starts to record HRV data. See instructions on how to set up the RR-recording for older devices from here.
* Garmin Edge 520 with the firmware version 12.10 or above does not allow measurement upload to Firstbeat software.
** Garmin Edge 820 with the firmware version 8 or above does not allow measurement upload to Firstbeat software.
Note!
Garmin has changed the saving logic of FIT files starting from the devices released in 2019 and continuing on so that the speed and altitude data will no longer be uploaded to the Sports and Sports Individual software. The features using speed and altitude data can no longer be analyzed in Sports or Sports Individual.
